Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What do I do with the stock Water in Filter (WIF) sensor that is located at the bottom of the stock fuel filter?

Staff answer: This sensor is not needed for your Duramax and the sensor can simply be tied off on your vehicle with wire or it can be discarded. Removing this sensor does not trigger DTC codes or check engine lights. Many experts will tell you that this water separator is not even needed in the first place.

  2. What is the service interval for this Fuel Filter?

Staff answer: If this filter is used as the primary source of filtering, the interval for replacement is 10,000 miles. If you want to include a secondary aftermarket filtration system the life of the filter can be extended up to 45,000 miles. Consult your secondary filtration manufacturer for more information.

  3. Is the 1/2" billet aluminum spacer plate required?

For 2001-2010 vehicles the spacer is optional and it will give increased access to the fuel filter. For 2011 and new trucks the spacer is required. We recommend using the shorter bolts for 2001-2010 trucks and the longer bolts for 2011+.
